I have a 2002 GTX-DI (blue) and there's something to keep in mind;

DI engines are hard on spark plugs, change them every year.

I had the same problem, ran fine on the trailer to flush out the anti-freeze coolant, put in water and let it idle out of the no-wake zone then rev it up and find it won't go past 4500 rpms or 30-35mph. Went back to dock (choppy water) and changed the spark plugs, back out and ran fine.

When the maintenance light comes on or flashes, Hold down the SET button for 2 seconds, it will clear the maintenance warning.

Your GTX-DI should be doing 50mph @ WOT with 6,800 to 7,100 rpms.

To rule out the battery not having enough charge, make sure the battery is fully charged and is holding a charge overnight with the battery cables disconnected from the ski.

If the battery is low and is not holding a charge, it will put a strain on the rectifier and possibly burn it out from overloading it because it has to charge the battery and power the MPEM, fuel pump, etc.

The Maint is flashing and the red light is on steady, no flash.

Fresh water used.

1) What color was the lanyard/key that you were using? If white, it's your learning key.

2) Is the maint light on all the time or blinking? Any message being displayed "Fuel-Lo", "Oil Low", "12 Low", "H-Temp" or "Maint"?

3) Does the ski beep twice when you put the lanyard on it?

4) Fresh or Salt Water used unit?

I am very new to owning a jet ski and I need some help please. I purchased the 2002 Seadoo GTX DI from my in-laws and took it out today for the very first time ever. You should have seen me backing it into the water!

We rode it for about 30 minutes and all it would do was about 28 MPH at full throttle. We did have me, my wife, son on it so it had some weight. All of a sudden the engine just died a few ways out from the dock. It had a hard time starting and when it did, I would give it throttle and it would not give me any speed and then would die again. After jumping in and pushing to the dock and getting it home, it started just fine and had good throttle on the trailer.

Any help is greatly appreciated very much. I have heard the battery may not be strong enough and that is the problem. Also the "Maint" is on and the red light is on...

Thank you very much for your time and help!
Let's all hope this is a cheap fix!
